Thriftacular Contest

Raise a thrifted glass to Toronto Yard Sale Snoop's 100th post!

Well, I've made it to my 100th post. This only means two things: I shop too much and I yap a lot. Thankfully, I'm in good company. To celebrate this modest milestone, I am borrowing Sonya's (Dimestore Thrift) fantastic idea of thrifting for a lucky winner. As some of you know, I won Sonya's contest last month and her Day of the Dead treasures made me so happy. I'd love to do the same for someone else.

Contest "Rules" (I normally hate rules)
1. You must either already be a follower of my blog, or take the opportunity to become a follower.
2. Write me a comment telling me about your thrifting passion(s). In other words, what do you collect? I'll do my best to make the winner happy, but I'm on a teacher's budget, so please don't ask for that Art Deco dining room table you've always wanted.
3. This contest is open to anyone anywhere in the world.
4. If you have a blog, please add me to your blog list and if I haven't already done so, let me know and I'll do the same.

One week from now, I'll put the names into an old bowl that I've thrifted and I'll have my son pick the winner. Oh yeah, one entry per person. All the best, Erin.

It's Thanksgiving in Canada tomorrow. We had to pick up a few last grocery items at the No Frills at Golden Mile. As luck would have it, that store is beside the Value Village near my school - the same one I had bad luck at on Friday. Today was a different story. To make matters luckier, Duncan opted to stay in the car with daddy for the first time. This meant, no toy department diversions.
I loved this little Anchor Hocking mini mixing bowl ($1.99).
The apricot colour changes hue depending on the light.
I bought this rather busy 1972 Jungle Habitat plate. It's got Warner Bros. stamped all over it.
Close up of centre.
Bear with me, I'm not done yet.

Okay, read this description on the back. Was this place an animal theme park? Does it still exist? Does anyone know anything about the Jungle Habitat? The plate cost $2.99. I cleaned it up and it already has chocolate chip Halloween cookies on it.

I grabbed these 19th hole glasses. I wish there had been more in the set, but at least there's one for each of us. They cost .69 each. Wow!
The next two items aren't thrifted or old, but I like them anyway. This glittery Halloween sign came from the dollar department at No Frills. It looks cool already. In 30 years time, it will look even cooler.
Here's our minimalist Ikea teapot. I just made a tea and I thought I'd share this on the blog. Don't you love the design? I'm pretty sure they still have them in stock. I believe it was $9.99. You do need to use the rubber spout piece, or else the tea drips everywhere.

  4. Kibbygirl - I'm so sorry I didn't catch the fact that you had a blog - or maybe I did and in a bad mommy brain moment, I forgot. I've added your blog to my list and I've become a follower of the Frugal Dollhouse.
    Thanks for being so gracious.

  7. Congrats on 100 posts - I'm so happy to have found your blog. You are on my list and I see tat I am on yours too. Yea! My favorites to thrift for - vintage brightly colored tablecloths, vintage Christmas, vintage Easter (I'm dying to find a big German foil egg), Vintage Halloween, Annalee dolls (I know some people hate 'em, but I love them), vintage Birthday Candle boxes and cake toppers or cake picks and picnic baskets. Of course, I don't expect you to ship a picnic basket. Just thought I'd throw that one in there anyway. ;o)

  9. Kibbygirl,
How sweet are you! This mean's I've won a contest and an award within two months - I think that's more than I've received for anything in my lifetime. I was the high school kid who sat politely clapping as the Muffy Teppermans and football jocks cleaned up at the award ceremonies. I will pay this award forward in a post this week.
I just realized you live outside Toronto. That makes us almost neighbours.

  12. Neat idea for a giveaway! Thrift shopping is so much fun...and I love when I find a special deal on something I love. As for what I collect I go through phases it seems. Right now the things that make me happiest are different colored (and/or unique) buttons and beads and mostly anything that is a star shape or has stars on it. Think rainbows, rainbow colors and earthy colors (grassy greens, chocolate browns, sky blue, fall leaves (all their colors)). Those are my favorites.

Going to leave an entry on my blog about your giveaway. You'll be able to find it at http://foundprodigaldaughter.blogspot.com once I have it posted.

Have a great day and thank you!
